Theory:
1 Understand the factors of television system.
1.1 Define the terms field, frame, persistence of vision, flicker, picture element, aspect ratio
1.2 Describe the different modern scanning methods
1.3 List the specification of CCIR standard used in Bangladesh.
1.4 Compare PAL, SECAM, NTSC and ATSC color TV systems.
1.5 Calculate the required channel band width for transmission of television signal.
1.6 Describe three color theory.
1.7 Define the terms hue, brightness, saturation, luminance, chrominance, color temperature, peak white and gray color.

2 Understand the fundamentals of television signal.
2.1 List different components in the composite video signal (CVS).
2.2 Explain the need for sync, blanking and equalizing pulses.
2.3 Calculate the values of amplitude luminance and chrominance signals for different colors bar signal at different saturations.

Practical:

1 Perform the identification of physical layout, location of stages and major components of a Black and White (B & W) receiver.
1.1 Select a B & W TV receiver with circuit diagram and required tools & materials.
1.2 Observe the physical layout.
1.3 Identify the location of stages and component numbers.
1.4 Identify the location of major components in the physical circuit.

2 Perform the reassemble of CRT and allied parts of a B & W TV receiver.

2.1 Select a B & W TV receiver with required materials, tools and equipment.
2.2 Observe the mechanism of mounting CRT.
2.3 Dismount magnet, coil and earth straps.
2.4 Re-assemble the parts again.
2.5 Adjust the controls for the best performance.

3 Study the process of generation and addition of colors with a color bar pattern generator.

3.1 Select a color TV receiver, a color bar pattern generator and required materials.
3.2 Connect the pattern generator to the color TV receiver.
3.3 Switch on the power supply for each of the equipment.
3.4 Produce red, green and blue color on the screen.
3.5 Add the colors to produce yellow, cyan, magenta and white.

4 Locate the stages, major components and signal flow in a color TV receiver.

4.1 Select a color TV receiver with a circuit diagram.
4.2 Observe the circuit diagram and the circuit board.
4.3 Observe the layout of the components.
4.4 Note the stages and identify the components numbers.
4.5 Determine the stages of the major components.
4.6 Observe the signal flow in the PCB in accurdance with the circuit diagram.
5 Perform the identification of the front panel control and their adjustments in color TV receiver.

5.1 Select a color TV receiver and required tools & equipment.
5.2 Identify various front panel control knobs and their circuit locations.
5.3 Adjust the knobs in different positions.
5.4 Observe the performance for various adjustments.
5.5 Identify the best possible adjustments.

6 Perform the reassemble of CRT and allied parts in a color TV receiver.

6.1 Select a color TV receiver and required tools, equipment & materials.
6.2 Dismantle the picture tube and its allied parts.
6.3 Identify different parts and connections of color TV receiver.
6.4 Reassemble the tubes and allied parts.
6.5 Observe the operation of color TV receiver.
6.6 Adjust the controls for the best performance.

7 Study the operation of external control in a video cassette recorders (VCR).

7.1 Select a VCR and required tools & materials.
7.2 Connect the power supply.
7.3 Change the controls.
7.4 Observe the performance.
7.5 Set up the controls for proper operation.

8 Study the operation of VCR/VCD.

8.1 Select a VCR/VCD and required tools & equipment.
8.2 Compare the block diagram with VCR/VCD.
8.3 Compare major components in different stages.
8.4 Observe the tap transport mechanism.
8.5 Connect the VCR/VCD receiver.
